X-Men drop 5-2 game to UNB in Fredericton

Fredericton, NB – The STFX X-Men dropped a 5-2 game to the defending AUS champion UNB REDS on Saturday night.
Dominik Godin got the X-Men on the board with just over a minute left in the first period, taking a pass from Jordan Hughesman in neutral ice and skating in, beating the UNB defender and goaltender.
The REDS evened things up on a goal from Luke Torrance two minutes into the second period. Stuart Rolofs made it a 2-1 UNB lead with a power play goal just over two minutes later.
Thomas Larouche put the REDS up 3-1 midway through the period.
The X-Men got one back before the period was over as Aaron Brown roofed a high shot past UNB netminder Liam Sztuska.
Midway through the third period the X-Men found themselves in penalty trouble and Cody Morgan scored two separate power play goals for the REDS, both on 5-on-3 advantages.
The 5-2 UNB lead held for the remainder of the period for the home team REDS, who outshot the X-Men 44-18 on the night.
STFX will next hit the ice on Wednesday, October 8th when they travel to Halifax for a 7:00 pm game against Dalhousie. Their home opener is slated for Saturday, October 11th when Moncton will be in Antigonish for a 7:00 pm puck drop.
