Sackville, NB – The U SPORTS No. 10 ranked StFX X-Men dominated the Mount Allison Mounties Friday night, playing to an 11-0 shutout victory.
Reigning U SPORTS player of the year Dan Hayfield netted four goals for the X-Men, who established a convincing 5-0 lead in the opening 10 minutes of play.
Cole Suart, Hayfield with two, William Warren and a Mounties own goal accounted for the first five markers.
Hayfield increased the StFX lead in the 17th minute, followed up by goals from Ben Herringer (37th minute) and Jordan Rao (39th minute) as the visitors closed out the first half with an 8-0 lead.
Joe Edgerton netted the X-Men's ninth goal in the 66th minute, with Hayfield scoring his fourth goal in the 77th. Tane Caubo rounded out the X-Men scoring in the 80th minute in a dominating effort by StFX.
Total shots were 20-1 in the game as Sheamus MacDonald picked up the win in the StFX net. David Desbarats took the loss for the Mounties who fall to 0-5-0 on the season.
The X-Men (3-1-1) will be back in action on Sunday when they host the UPEI Panthers at home in a 3:15 pm game at Oland Stadium.
