SYDNEY, NS - The CBU Capers defeated the STFX X-Men 1-0 in AUS men's soccer action Friday evening at Ness Timmons Field.
The loss snapped a six-game winning streak for the U SPORTS No. 3 ranked X-Men.
The first half remained scoreless despite the Capers spending a lot of time in the offensive end. CBU took eight shots with four of them hitting the target but stopped by STFX keeper Samuel Diltz. Capers keeper Jack Harrington faced and stopped four X shots in the first half.
The Capers came out raring to go in the second half getting seven shots on net to the X-Men's one. In the 77th minute, a shot by Yohann Hebert, assisted by Joe Mac, sailed past Diltz to give the Capers the lead late in the game. It would prove to be all the home team needed to hang onto the win.
The Player of the Game for the X-Men was Max Bodurtha and for Cape Breton was Yohann Hebert.
STFX will be back in action on home turf on Sunday, October 5th in a 3:30 pm Homeomcing game against Acadia.
