Patterson sets new X record in one mile race
X-Men and X-Women Track teams run to great results at UNB SJ meet
Saint John, NB – The STFX X-Men and X-Women Track teams ran to some great results at the UNB SJ meet held this past weekend at the Irving Oil Field House.
Liam Patterson set a new STFX record in the one mile race when he clocked in at 4:11.67 in fourth place overall. The previous record of 4:12.34 was set in 2017 by Alex Cyr. Also placing in the mile race for X were Brett King (4:24.41) and Joel Gallant (4:24.48) in 9th and 10th places. They were followed by Griffin Gamble in 13th (4:27.0, Mathew Lawton in 15th (4:28.23), Landyn Cooke-Brithrey in 23rd (4:40.88) and Andrew Lupenette in 28th (4:45.97).
In the women's one mile race, STFX's Caden Lee took top spot with a time of 4:56.97. Her teammate Caroline Ash was 5th at 5:01.09, and Poppy Moon was 7th at 5:01.54. Also competing for X were Quincy Rotsaert-Smith 21st (5:30.37), Poppy Thomson in 22nd (5:30.38) and Paige Quinn in 24th (5:33.26).
The X-Women and X-Men also had racers in the 3000m events.
In the women's 3000m, Eileen Benoit came in second place overall, crossing the line with a time of 9:44.50. Rotsaert-Smith (10:54.95), Quinn (10:56.12) and Thomson (10:57.03) came 14-15-16 for the X-Women.
The men's 3000m race featured five X-Men competitors including the race winner Brett King. King ran to an 8:27.48 result to claim to claim the top spot. Gallant came fourth at 8:41.82, and he was followed by Gamble (8:49.50) in fifth place, Lawton (8:53.36) in seventh spot, and Lupenette (9:15.220 in 15th.
Rounding out the weekend results was a pair of X-Women in the 600m race. Maya Black came in eighth overall with a time of 1:46.51, and Jillian Bennett was ninth at 1:47.57.
Next on the schedule for the track team is the SMU Open taking place Saturday, February 8th at the Canada Games Centre in Halifax.
