Hoop X-Women earn first win of AUS season

The X-Women basketball team earned their first AUS regular season victory for first year head coach Augy Jones with a 72-57 win over Cape Breton Wednesday night in Sydney, N.S.
The X-Women jumped out to a 16-6 first quarter lead then never looked back. After outscoring the Capers 22-17 in the second quarter, they held a 38-23 advantage at half-time. Second half scoring was even at 34-34.
The X-Women shot 53.7% from field goal range while the Capers were 30.8%. From three-point range, StFX was 8.3% (1 for 12) while the Capers were 21.1% (4 for 19). At the free-throw line, the Capers were 92.9% compared to the X-Women’s 81.2%.
Kolbi Roper led the X-Women in scoring with 23 points and also added 7 rebounds and 3 steals. Rebecca Sheehan scored 17 points and had 3 rebounds, 8 assists, 3 steals and 1 blocked shot. Freshman Lindsay Lessard scored 14 and had 8 rebounds and 3 assists.
Replying for the Capers was Colleen Keane and Brittany Hollins off the bench, each with 13 points apiece. Keane also had 7 rebounds in the game. Tanire McClurkin scored 11 points.
Next up for the X-Women (1-1) is a pair of games on their Oland Centre home court this coming weekend. Saturday night, their home opener is slated for 6:00 pm against UPEI (0-2), followed by a Sunday afternoon match-up against UNB (0-2) at 1:00 pm.
